Samsung was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-Chul as a small trading company located in the city of South Korean city of Daegu. The prosperous company was forced to move to the city of Busan in 1950 and start over; this move was a result of the communist invasion that occurred in Seoul at the time. During the Korean War, Samsung's businesses boomed and their assets great twenty-fold. Samsung sought to expand its diversity and become an industry leader in a wide range of enterprises. The company made moves into the insurance, securities, and retail industries. In the early 1970s, Samsung launched a radio and television station. From this beginning emerged a multinational conglomerate corporation. Today, Samsung is the world's largest conglomerate by revenue, and it is headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul, South Korea. Samsung is composed of various affiliated international businesses, including Samsung Electronics, the world's largest electronics company.
