Sansui
Sansui Electric was founded in Tokyo, Japan in 1947, and the company originally manufactured transformers. Sansui developed a reputation for their audio components in the 1960s, and the company sold their products in foreign markets throughout the 1960s and 70s. Sansui amplifiers and tuners from that era remain in demand among audio enthusiasts today. In the 1980s, the company's presence in the United States began to fade due to competition from rivals such as Sony, Pioneer, and Matsushita's Technics. Sansui began to focus on manufacturing high-end video components in Japan, and ceased exportation shortly thereafter.
Today Sansui exists as an umbrella company and has traded in its high-end reputation for a mass market one. Audio and Video products are still being produced under the brand name, and Sansui is still headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company is a part of Grande Holdings, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate, who owns other Japanese brands like Akai and Nakamichi.
