Key Features
When choosing a night vision device, the first question should be, what is it going to be used for?\r\nNot all night vision devices are made the same. Each device is usually designed and engineered for specific roles and environments.
Night Vision Equipment Type
Monocular
The primary difference between the generations is the photocathode. For example Generation 2 uses a multi alkali photocathode while Generation 3 uses gallium Arsenide. Gallium Arsenide provides a significant increase in photoresponse and tube life. Other differences in performance will be image tube resolution, tube gain and signal to noise ratio. Therefore Generation 3 offers greater clarity but is generally more expensive than Generation 2. \r\nGeneration 4 image tubes use a filmless technology which greatly improves the signal to noise ratio, lower halo. Generation 4 technology optics are often refered to as "Filmless & Gated" image intensifiers.
When you know your going to be out with your night vision optic for long periods of time in the outdoors, selecting a waterproof model is an smart choice. Some optics are sealed with o-rings and are nitrogen-purged for waterproof and fogproof protection. These models are able to withstand complete immersion and remain dry inside.

| Pros |
Cheap, well made, easy to use and fun. |
| Cons |
Can't really compete with a decent Gen2. |
| Bottom Line |
If you need serious night vision, avoid this. Great for kids and general use, but needs the illuminator to see if it's really dark |
