Coaxial speakers, also known as two-way speakers, usually have more than one speaker mounted together but driven separately. This generally allows for better sound quality, especially at higher frequencies. Component speakers are independent speakers that need to be coupled with others for a full range of sound. Components
A tweeter is a small driver dedicated to high-frequency reproduction. There are several types all with their own attributes. Generally the technology involved will have a significant bearing on the overall price of the tweeter. Cone Cone tweeters are the most common and economical. They have proven to be an efficient and cheap option for a reasonable level of sound quality. Dome Dome or "edge-driven" tweeters are the type found in most home speakers. They have excellent clarity and sound dispersion. Whizzer Unlike most tweeter types which move independently of the woofer, a whizzer is a small paper cone fixed to the woofer's center. Both cones move along a common axis reducing the disconnect that can occur between the two speakers from different angles. The result is a very natural sound. Horn Horn tweeters deliver low-distortion and superb high frequency sound.
The type of material your woofer is made out of depends on the sound quality you are looking for and how much money you are willing to spend. Paper Paper (pulp) woofers are the least expensive, but if properly engineered can provide great sound. However, they should not be overused in car speakers because of their susceptibility to moisture. Poly / Plastic Possibly the most-used material for car speakers, poly and plastic are weather-resistant and have good internal damping. Composite Mica, CMMD (Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm), Glass-imides, HCL (Honeycomb-Laminate), and IMPP are all types of composite materials used for speakers cones. These materials are non-resonant, stiff and strong. They all create uncolored sound with excellent dispersion. Metal Cast metals have greater resistance to resonance than stamped metals. Cast aluminum is not only lightweight but also very strong.

Strontium magnets are small and strong, most effective in tweeters. Barium ferrite magnets are rarer and used with all types of speakers. Neodymium magnets are the most common, also used with all types of speakers.

Cloth or Textile This is the name for a variety of cloth fabrics used for speaker construction. Used to replicate the sound of silk tweeters. Rubber Rubber offers excellent flexibility and durability. Butyl Rubber A rubber/butylene compound with excellent flexibility and durability. Santroprene This is a popular new durable plastic material used in many different products apart from speakers. Urethane Urethane is a plastic compound with proven flexibility and weather resistance and is an advance on natural rubber.
